In an interview where he openly discussed his bodybuilding contest drug regimen, six-time Mr.Olympia Dorian Yates expressed consternation about one particular drug. "I can't believe how much trenbolone bodybuilders are using now," said Yates. Yates said that while using trenbolone during his precontest preparation, he used it twice a week at a dose of 70 milligrams. Current bodybuilding competitors are not only using much more trenbolone, or "tren" as it's often called, but also in far higher doses. Although there is no direct cause-and-effect evidence, this newfound heavy use of trenbolone could be partially to blame for the increased death rates seen among otherwise healthy young male and female bodybuilders. Trenbolone is, without a doubt, the most popular of all anabolic steroid drugs and also by far the most dangerous. Trenbolone is unique in the sense that while it shares all the common side effects associated with heavy steroid usage, it imparts side effects that go beyond what is typically experienced when using other anabolic steroid drugs.
Trenbolone was initially researched by a major pharmaceutical company in the late 60s. The first version of trenbolone, trenbolone acetate, appeared in the 70s as a veterinary drug, and the trade names were Finajet and Finaject. Prior experiments with trenbolone in animals showed that it effectively increased muscle mass while substantially lowering body fat. This made it ideal to feed to cattle to increase lean beef production. Finajet was administered to the animal's ears as pellets. Although this form of tren was never targeted for human use, in later years, bodybuilders would grind up the Finajet pellets and inject them into their system. While trenbolone acetate, the form in Finajet, is a short-acting drug, other long-acting versions of trenbolone were produced, such as Parabolan, which was trenbolone enanthate. Parabolan was similar to long-acting testosterone drugs, such as testosterone enanthate, but was far more powerful. Scientists consider dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, the most potent androgen because it has a three times greater affinity to interact with androgen cell receptors than testosterone. Trenbolone shares that trait with DHT but doesn't produce the side effects associated with DHT, such as male pattern baldness and acne. DHT is a metabolite of testosterone produced when testosterone encounters the 5-alpha reductase enzymes that convert it into DHT.
Trenbolone can be considered a "super nandrolone," similar to other nandrolone-based steroids, such as Deca-Durabolin and Durabolin. However, trenbolone is far more potent than other nandrolones. It is considered to have 5-times the anabolic potency of testosterone, or the ability to promote muscle gains. Simultaneously, trenbolone is also efficient at promoting fat loss. It does that by promoting the conversion of pluripotent stem cells into either muscle or fat, favoring the muscle pathway . . .
